Taste! Jerez

This is a 7-night exploration of the wines of Jerez plus the food and the culture of the beautiful region of Andalucía. Sherry, is an underestimated and misunderstood wine and this is your chance to spend a week in the region and learn all about it with Carlos our Spanish guide.

Taste! Jerez Dates – October 5th to 12th 2019

We have chosen an autumn visit to ensure the temperatures of the south of Spain are not too high. Your accommodation is in the 19th-century Garvey Palace which is located in the historic quarter of Jerez de la Frontera. It offers large, uniquely decorated air-conditioned rooms.

We have a fabulous itinerary planned for you!

Day One – Pickup and Arrival in Jerez. We will collect you from either Seville or Jerez airport and transfer you to your hotel to settle in and later you will enjoy a welcome sherry tasting and dinner at your hotel.

Day Two – Jerez. We start the day with a guided tour of Jerez where you will learn a great deal about the history of this town and also Andalucía. We will also visit to one of the finest producers of Sherry wines for a private tour that includes time to view their superb art gallery followed by a light tapas lunch and Sherry tasting.

Day Three – Sanlúcar de Barrameda, El Puerto de Santa María & Cadiz. We start with a drive to the coastal town of Sanlúcar de Barrameda where Manzanilla sherry is matured. Here you will learn how and why Manzanilla has a different character to the fino wines matured elsewhere. Our first visit of the day will be to one of the oldest producers of these wines where we will enjoy a fascinating tour and tasting. From here we drive to El Puerto de Santa María which is the third corner of the ‘Sherry Triangle’ for lunch. In the af ternoon we take a cruise across the bay to arrive in Cadiz where we have arranged a further one-hour walking tour before driving you back to Jerez for a free evening.

Day Four –  The Royal Spanish Riding School & Flamenco.  The day includes a visit to the Royal Spanish Riding school for a spectacular performance and in the evening we will enjoy an evening of Flamenco with dinner in Jerez.

Day Five – Cork Experience & Arcos de la Frontera. Today we head into Parque Nacional de los Alcornocales to visit a cork farm where we will learn how the cork trees are grown and the cork harvested and the eco system these forests support. This is followed by a visit the beautiful village of Arcos de la Frontera for lunch followed by a free afternoon to explore.

Day Six – Seville. Today we head for Seville for a guided tour of the Cathedral and Alcazar followed by a delicious lunch at a traditional Seville restaurant and some free time in the afternoon to explore Seville.

Day Seven – Our last day is a busy one that includes 2 excellent bodega visits, a master cooking demonstration and a delicious farewell dinner.

Accommodation – We have chosen the excellent 4* hotel Palacio Garvey in the historical centre of Jerez.

Price – €1950 per person based on 2 people sharing
