This 3-day whistle stop tour of Burgundy will be ran by Wendy Gedney and includes the famous Côte-d’Or but also the southern appellations which many people unfortunately miss when they go to Burgundy. The southern wines have long been a favourite of Wendy’s, especially the whites from the Mâconnais and the countryside in that area is also very beautiful.
We have a fabulous itinerary lined up for you!
The Côte-d’Or is possibly one of the most famous vineyard regions in the world and home to some great names such as Clos de Vougeot, Nuit Saint-George, Meursault and Puligny Montrachet. Today’s tour takes you to visit both ends of the Côte-d’Or where you will learn much of the history of this very special place, visit Clos de Vougeot and taste wines from all the above-mentioned appellations.
The Chalonnaise is not as well-known as its neighbouring cousin the Côte-d’Or but is excellent hunting ground for good value Burgundy. The rolling countryside is home to many farms and domaines where cattle graze alongside Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vineyards. We will visit a typical Domaine where father and son make fabulous red and white Rully wines in the morning and after lunch we will head to better known Mercurey to taste there too.
The Mâconnais is famous for delicious Chardonnay wines from such great appellations as Pouilly-Fuissé, Viré-Clessé and Saint-Véran. We will spend the day touring this very pretty area tasting some of the superb wines made here and enjoying lunch at a pretty auberge in the heart of the region.
