The Côtes du Rhône is one of the most highly regarded wine regions of France. Probably its most famous wine is Châteauneuf-du-Pape but there are many others such as Gigondas, Vacqueyras plus some excellent Côtes du Rhône Villages such as one of our favourites, Séguret. The region also has some of the most beautiful hill top villages and an ancient history going back to Roman times.
Taste! Côtes du Rhône – July 6 to 11 2019
This very special 5-day tour of the Rhône is set in a beautiful Provencal villa with wonderful views over the mountains and to the swimming pool in the well-kept garden. Each day we will take you to visit some of our favourite wineries and places of interest and enjoy a delicious lunch in one of the very special restaurants in this area. The pace is slow enough to enjoy everything including returning each day in time to enjoy a swim or relax by the pool. In the evening delicious light suppers will be prepared for you including fresh salads, cheeses and charcuterie accompanied by the wines of the region.
Day One – Pickup and Châteauneuf du Pape. We pick you up from Nimes airport or Avignon TGV train station and head straight to Châteauneuf du Pape to visit one of our favourite wine makers in that village. This is one of the small, family owned wineries who have been making wine here for generations. We will taste both his red and white Châteauneuf du Pape wines and then head off to a have lunch in the village.
Day Two – Sightseeing & Wine tasting in the Ventoux. The Ventoux mountain is within sight of our villa and that’s the direction we will be heading today. We will visit one of the top producers of AOC Ventoux and enjoy a stroll through the vines and admire the chateau followed by an excellent tasting. Lunch is in one of the perched villages and then in the afternoon we visit Senanque Abbey and the stunning village of Gordes.
Day Three – Bedoin Market & Cotes du Rhone Wine Tasting. Close to where we will stay is the pretty village of Bedoin where one of the finest Provencal markets take place every Monday. You will have some free time to enjoy the market before we head to what we think is the most beautiful vineyard in France! Its quite a statement but we are sure you will agree and you will also love the wines produced there. The afternoon includes lunch in one of the most spectacular hill top villages followed by a visit and tasting close by.
Day Four – Avignon & Les Baux-de-Provence. Today we visit the town of Avignon for a guided tour including some food tastings in the market then we take a 30 minute drive to a beautiful chateau for a delicious lunch. Nearby is the spectacular village of Les Beaux where you will have some free time to explore.
Day Five – Cotes du Rhone Wine Tasting. We will spend the day close to home tasting wines at quality wineries in the Gigondas and Vacqueyras appellations and enjoying a great lunch plus there will be time to explore Vaison la Romain or take your last chance to laze by the pool for tomorrow is homeward bound.
