Taste! Rhône

Rhone Crillion de BraveThe Rhône Valley is one of the famous wine regions of France. Probably its best known wine is Châteauneuf-du-Pape but there are many others such as Gigondas, Vacqueyras and of course Tavel the wine that claims to be the best rosé in France.

The region also has some of the most beautiful hill top villages, an ancient history going back to Roman times and the lovely city of Avignon with its bridge that stops half way across the mighty Rhône river.  If you are planning a holiday to the area we offer a range of Private tours in this region.

Chateauneuf-du-papeTavel, Lirac and Châteauneuf-du-Pape

This day tour starts on the left bank of the River Rhône with a visit to the Tavel where they claim to make the best rosé in France. It’s also an area that makes superb red wine and white wines and after tatsings Tavel and learning about its history we will head to Lirac which is another left bank appellation. Here we visit a family owned winery, take a stroll through the vines and taste their wines of all 3 colours. Now its time to head to Châteauneuf-du-Pape for lunch followed by a visit to the village and then a walk in the vines to learn about the incredible terroir that makes these wines so famous. We will visit a traditional producer of red and white Châteauneuf-du-Pape and learn about the 13 different grape varieties that can be used to make one of the most famous wines in the world.

Dentelles Gigondas, Vacqueyras & Beaumes du Venise

The Dentelles Mountains are possible the most stunning you will come across and it’s on the slopes of these mountains that the famous wines of Gigondas, Vacqueyras & Beaumes du Venise are grown. Our first visit of the day is to a producer of delicious Vacqueyras red wines. He will take us for a walk through his vineyard and explain the terroir and how he believed the different strata of rock make such a difference to the taste of his wine. You can decide for yourself when you taste these hand crafted wines later. Lunch is enjoyed at a local country Auberge close to the mountains and then we head to possibly the most scenic vineyard we have ever come across high up on the edge of the mountains. Here red and white wines are carefully made and you will taste how the altitude here gives a delicate elegance to these wines. We finish the day taste the sweet Muscat wines of Beaumes de Venise, just like a taste of honey!
