The ancient village of Lagrasse lies in a beautiful valley in the Corbières about 40 minutes from Carcassonne. It was once a very important trading town and today you will visit the old covered market for a fabulous foodie tour, and afterwards explore the village, learn about the abbey and watch the children playing in the river on a sunny day. Your guide is a resident of this pretty village and during the 3 hour tour you will learn some of the history if this ‘Plus Beaux Villages de France’ from someone who is passionate about their beloved Lagrasse.
Every Saturday, in the ancient covered market in the centre of the village there is a fabulous organic market. Your guide will walk you around the stalls explaining the various Languedoc foods and how you can prepare and cook them. You will taste the local cheese, honey and olive oils and learn the history and customs behind them. After the market you will take a stroll around this ancient village along the narrow cobbled ‘ruelles’ and along the way, between the town and the abbey, in squares and behind facades, there are stories to be told and a fascinating medieval history to be revealed.
This tour is available on Saturdays which is market day in the village of Lagrasse. On other days we can arrange a shorter tour that focuses on the history and includes some food tastings.
