This is a day of wine and food that has something for everyone and as with all our Prestige & Private tours it can be tailored to suit you and your group. The day includes cooking and learning about Languedoc wines and if your group would like to split up and do these activities separately then we are happy to help. The tour is best taken on a Tuesday when we can visit the lively market of Olonzac.
We collect you from your hotel and our standard itinerary would start with a visit to one of the most charming markets in the Languedoc region with Heather our local chef. She will guide you through the market explaining how to select the best produce and you will sample some tasty morsels along the way. This is a chance to fully understand how the French eat and shop outside of the restaurant world and why the local market plays such an important part in local life and French culture.
After our shopping expedition, our culinary journey takes us to Heather’s unique cooking school on a working farm and wine domaine located on the banks of the Canal du Midi.
Before the cooking commences you will join Wendy Gedney, owner of Vin en Vacances and a highly experienced wine teacher for an hour of wine appreciation. You will learn how to taste wines like a professional and taste and learn why Languedoc wines are some of the most exciting in France today. Wendy will also give you some helpful tips about food & wine matching whilst you enjoy some tasty nibbles.
Now it’s time to cook some classic French food in a hands-on cookery class which is fun, relaxed and not too technical! Heather will show you timeless methods and give you useful skills and simple tips that will help you to create classic French cuisine with a modern twist! Using fresh ingredients from our morning market trip and from the farmers who live alongside this lovely cooking school, you will learn to make a three course lunch including a seasonal starter and a delicious French dessert.
Our cooking class will focus on traditional dishes of the region, their history and how to create modern versions of these timeless classics. The highlight any French menu is the sauce and we will focus on classic French sauce-making as well as traditional techniques such as curing and preserving.
After all the preparation and cooking you can then relax and enjoy the fruits of your labour while raising your glass to the boats as they glide past you on the Canal du Midi.
