French Market & Vineyard Tour

Every Tuesday one of the best French markets takes place in the little town of Olonzac that nestles in the beautiful Minervois. As well as some of the best produce available this lovely market also offers basket ware and clothes and is a great place to spend a big part of the morning strolling the stalls and sampling the produce and maybe even buying some souvenirs. As we stroll through the market you will learn about and taste the plentiful
Languedoc foods such as traditional goat and sheep milk cheese including famous Roquefort. You will meet bakers, butchers and sausage curers, fruit & vegetable growers and dozens of others who continue to grow and make their products using traditional Languedoc methods that haven’t changed for years.

We end the morning with a visit to the village of Minerve, one the Plus Beaux Village de France. Here you will have some free time to stroll around this tiny historical village that is perched on a limestone rock surrounded by deep gorges. Your guide will also regale you with some of its history including the Cathar siege that took place here 800 years ago.

Now it’s time for lunch and depending on the season it could be enjoyed alfresco in a vineyard or at our favourite Minervois restaurant. Our final visit of the day is to a familly owned Minervois winery. Here we will learn why the range of red, white and rosé wines are known for their elegant intense flavours that are often accompanied by wild herb flavours such as lavender, thyme and rosemary.
