The Côtes du Rhône is one of the most highly regarded wine regions of France. Probably its most famous wine is Châteauneuf-du-Pape but there are many others such as Gigondas, Vacqueyras plus some excellent Côtes du Rhône Villages such as one of our favourites, Séguret. The region also has some of the most beautiful hill top villages and an ancient history going back to Roman times.
The tour will be led by Marcel Van Baalen. As our Rhône expert he has ran several tours in this region and has a great depth of knowledge which he loves to share. This very special 4-day tour of the Rhône is based in a beautiful Provencal village with wonderful views of Mount Ventoux and the Dentelles de Montmirail, two of the stunning mountain ranges in this area. You will stay in a delightful B&B with comfortable rooms and delicious breakfasts and each day we will take you to explore this fabulous wine region.
We have a fabulous itinerary lined up for you!
Day One – Pickup and Châteauneuf du Pape. We pick you up from Nimes airport or Avignon TGV train station and head straight to Châteauneuf du Pape to visit one of our favourite wine makers in that village. This is one of the small, family owned wineries who have been making wine here for generations. We will taste both his red and white Châteauneuf du Pape wines and then head off to a have lunch at our favourite restaurants just below the Popes ruined château.
Day Two – Exploring the Côtes du Rhône. Today we will immerse ourselves in the heart of the Côtes du Rhône visiting many of the famous appellations such as Gigondas and Vacqueyras. We will also visit what we think is the most beautiful vineyard in France! Its quite a statement but we are sure you will agree and you will also love the wines produced there. The lunch today will be one of the most spectacular hill top villages followed by a visit and tasting close by.
Day Three – Sightseeing & Wine tasting in the Ventoux. The Ventoux is a beautiful area close to the Côtes du Rhône where wines very simiklar to its neighbour are produced. We will visit one of the top producers of AOC Ventoux and enjoy a stroll through the vines and admire the chateau followed by an excellent tasting. Lunch is in one of the perched villages and then in the afternoon we visit Senanque Abbey and the stunning village of Gordes.
Day Four – Lirac and Farewell. Today after saying farewell to our B&B hosts we head for the airport in Nimes. Along the way we cross the mighty river Rhone over to the left bank appellation of Lirac and to one of its top producers. Here we will taste wines produced from pre-phylloxera vines that are over 120 years old before dropping you at the airport fro your return flight.
Accommodation – We have chosen a comfortable B&B in a village which has a choice of restaurants and a friendly bar to enjoy your evening meal.
