Canal du Midi Wine Tour

This varied tour begins with a visit to a local olive oil producer where we learn how the olives are harvested and pressed to produce delicious oils. Languedoc olive oil was famed until the big freeze in the spring of 1956 when many of the trees died so it is a delight to see this very traditional produce returning to the region.

From the olive mill we take the short drive to the village of Le Somail, one the prettiest ports along the Canal du Midi where we join our boat for a 1 hour private cruise and along the way we will entertain you with a delicious tasting of Languedoc wines and tell you the story of the Canal.

Lunch is always a very special part of our tours and today you will enjoy a 3-course meal made from fresh and local ingredients. There are some excellent small restaurants in the region or for groups of 6 or more lunch can be enjoyed alfresco in a vineyard.

Alternatively you can opt for  Gourmet Canal du Midi tour available Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday and you will eat at Aux 2 Rivieres. The restaurant is beautifully situated in the village of Minerve with a terrace that overlooks the confluence of the rivers Cesse and Brian in one of the Plus Beaux Village de France. Christophe, Audrey, Ambre & Emeline who run the restaurant are old friends of Vin en Vacances from the days when they ran another restaurant nearby and we are delighted the team have now moved to the old family home and converted it into such a lovely place to have lunch. The food is inventive, delicious and always very well presented and Audrey will pair each of the 3 courses with a local wine.

After lunch you will have a little free time in Minerve before taking a pretty drive through the Occitanie countryside to visit one of the finest wine producers of Minervois wines in the Languedoc. Here we will enjoy a private tour of the winery and learn how the wines are grown and made and this is followed by a delicious tasting of their expressive wines.
